Terrace by the Sea or River: Why Choose Composite Decking?

Terrace by the sea or river

During the summer, we strive to spend a lot of our free time in the countryside, particularly in places near water. This is because it’s beautiful, calming, and allows us to fully relax in nature.

That’s why buying or building a house by the water is so appealing for country living.

A terrace in a country house is another desirable feature. It becomes everyone’s favorite spot during the season. Adults, children, and even pets will spend a lot of time outdoors.

There are several important factors to consider when choosing the material for your terrace, especially when there is a river or sea nearby. Let’s discuss them further.

Many people aim for maximum naturalness when constructing a terrace or gazebo near their house, especially if it blends well with the surrounding landscape. This leads homeowners to consider wood or stone as the first options.

These materials are indeed very natural and harmonize with the surrounding nature. However, their advantages lie primarily in their appearance, while their drawbacks are quite evident.

Wood

In open areas, this is not the best choice for building a terrace.

The tree requires a lot of attention to look good with each successive season. The scorching sun dries out the wood too much, a lot of moisture (especially when your house is near the water) – crack it.

In addition, insects, fungus and mold will not cheer you up. From all this, the wooden coating must be carefully protected.

Therefore, every season you will start your vacation with the restoration of the terrace: varnishing, impregnation and protection against parasites. It takes time and money.

Stone

It is much stronger than wood, so you definitely won’t waste time restoring it.
But the stone floor also has disadvantages that you should pay attention to.
The stone heats up very quickly in the heat and cools down in bad weather. Therefore, it is unlikely that you will be able to walk barefoot on your terrace in summer.

Second, safety. Imagine accidentally missing a glass or cup, or if your little one falls on the stone floor. Not the best option for a relaxing daily holiday.

In addition, the stone can be very slippery if there is too much water on it.

If you choose floor tiles, then you will face almost the same problems that are inherent in stone.

Terrace composite board

The composite is devoid of many of the shortcomings that wood, stone or tile has.

Firstly, it is also natural, because it consists of 60% wood flour. But thanks to additives, it is more resistant to natural changes. Therefore, it is an ideal covering for open spaces.

The composite does not heat up or cool down too quickly, does not slip and is absolutely safe for adults, children and animals.
It does not dry out and does not fade in the sun, it does not need to be protected from moisture, mold or fungi. A terrace board generally requires minimal attention to itself: for example, at the beginning of the season it is enough to rinse it with a strong jet of water.

In addition, the latest composite production technologies make it possible to create a board that is almost impossible to distinguish visually and to the touch from a natural counterpart.

If you have chosen a house by the river or the sea, we recommend that you take a closer look at the innovative composite material. We have built hundreds of terraces that still look flawless, even after several decades of operation.
