What are the commonalities and differences between wood, the most natural of floor coverings, and its improved replacement, decking?
Both materials need to be protected
When using wood or composite in an outdoor space, you need to be sure that these materials will last as long as possible. And importantly, will require the least amount of maintenance and renewal each season.
Here’s where the line of difference comes in.
Wood flooring feels less confident outdoors. Therefore requires more care and protection after it becomes a terrace.
Each season, the care of wood increases: the covering must be impregnated with aggressive solutions that protect against burning, excessive moisture, mould and insects (often more than one solution). Then, in order for the wood to retain its perfect appearance, it must be painted or varnished.
All these protective manipulations do not make your natural material as natural as it seems.
For several seasons, the wooden terrace is saturated with so many unhelpful and even aggressive impurities that it makes no sense to talk about environmental safety.
Unlike its “most natural” and “safe” analogue, the terrace board at the stage of creation is already maximally protected.
During production, thanks to polymers and aditives, which are included in its composition, the board does not require additional impregnation or varnishing.
That is, if you have chosen a composite for your terrace – it will serve as long as possible without any additional interventions from the outside.
As for polymers?
Only safe polymer is used in the production of decking. It is taken from the packaging of food products and cosmetics. And it is as safe as possible.
It also does not contain PVC, so the board does not emit dangerous substances, formaldehyde or heavy metals and the like.
As for the wood?
Composite is absolutely safe for the environment – its composition is about 60 per cent wood. Therefore, you can safely walk barefoot on such a terrace and spend time with children and animals.
It is exclusively recycled wood, which remains after the production of furniture. In addition, no softwood or softwood flour is used. Only hardwood flour makes it possible to achieve the necessary strength of the board.
A quality decking board such as BRUGGAN does not emit an unpleasant odour.
Often manufacturers of budget versions of composite save on quality components, which leads to the fact that heating up in the sun the terrace can emit unpleasant odour, and this is very dangerous not only for children, but also for adults.
As for cutting down trees?
Taking into account that for the production of composite decking board only recycled wood is used (as we wrote above), so it is clear that its creation does not require additional cutting of trees.
And this preserves the forests for our future generations.
Therefore, buying a quality composite decking board, you not only choose a high quality covering, but also maximise the preservation of nature.
